Aloha,
from our family to yours

Kona Sunset Coffee is a family owned and operated farm on Hualalai mountain in Kona, Hawaii. This operation is the dream of our local wonder woman, Sammi, who dove head first into the world of coffee farming in 2018

These humble beginnings were a learning experience, starting with traditional coffee production. With time came confidence, and with confidence came experimentation. A variety of methods for producing coffee were tried, but ultimately we concluded that the traditional process produced the most spectacular cup of coffee.

Now, with a few years of experience under our belts we commit ourselves to greatness. Each bag of our coffee is crafted by hand, with love. It is our mission is to create a truly memorable coffee experience for all.

Never a dull day

Farming coffee is hard work! The process begins with our coffee trees, where rain brings beautiful white flowers (known as Kona snow) that turn into tiny green beans. These grow for five months becoming bright red fruit that then gets hand picked and processed. At the center of that bright red cherry is the coffee bean,
the magic that makes every cup of Kona coffee special!

What it takes to make a great cup of coffee

A great cup of coffee starts with the coffee trees. From bloom to ripe bean takes about five months. Once the beans are ripe, the cherry must be picked from the trees by hand. These coffee cherries are then pulped, removing their skin, before being fermented. The fermented beans are then rinsed, and laid out on racks to dry. Drying takes up to two weeks. Once the beans are dried, they are hulled to remove the two layers of parchment. This results in a green coffee bean that is ready to roast.

A bag of coffee can take up to six months to produce!
